Beck's Cars Cake

This was the cake I made for my cousin Christy's son Beck. It was his second birthday this August and he is OBSESSED with the Disney movie Cars. This was the first cake that I made the icing from scratch, as well as using both buttercream icing and fondant. My brother came up with the sign saying 'Beck's 2nd Birthday Next Exit' which was a pretty sweet touch. There was also a sign giving the distances from Westlock to Edmonton, Calgary and Vernon. some road signs included on the cake were a rocks falling sign, traffic light sign, and the bumpy road sign. The biggest hit of the cake was the car on top, that's for sure, and I'll admit it was pretty sweet, doing flips and what not. I felt so awful though because the birthday boy had some sort of allergic reaction and started freaking out, rubbing his head and screaming and crying. It was pretty scary. But I think Beck was pretty happy with the cake, and that's the most important thing.

Belly Cake

When I found out my cousin was pregnant on Monday, I immediately started planning out a cake. I ended up going to the store 3 times and staying up until 4:00 in the morning (working after only 4 hours of sleep is not fun!) but it was well worth it. Her reaction/expression was definitely one of the best I've had yet! The Mommy-to-Be's favorite color is green and I was a huge fan of the color scheme used on a previous cake of mine, so I used that for inspiration. I can't take credit for the idea of the cake itself though, there are thousands of these cakes online... don't search for them though because then you'll think mine sucks, haha. I planned on it to look like a dress with straps too, but when you don't start a cake until 10:00, you change your plans to something much more simple and less time consuming! I had so much fun making this cake, and I am so excited for my cousin and her husband. They're the type of couple you just KNOW will be amazing parents; not to mention her parents (I'm sure his parents too... I just don't really know them) will be amazing grandparents too. They spoil me like crazy and I'm only their neice! Thanks for looking

Army Tank Cake

This cake was made for a friend's brother's 10th birthday party. The client was pretty specific about the theme, which actually made my job a lot easier! I don't know what the deal with all the corn starch is but other than that I am really pleased with the results of this cake. It was pretty fun to make, mainly because I knew exactly what I was going to do. The little person was a last minute touch because it just seemed to be missing something. Covering squares/rectangles is so easy, I love it!
